General Information

Residents of Berks County, Pennsylvania need to file these Tax Returns: Federal Income Tax on Form 1040 to the I.R.S. Pennsylvania State Income Tax, using the PA-1040 form Local Earned Income Tax (School and Municipal), using the Form available here or from your Tax Preparer. and other taxes if they run a business or have special considerations. Only the taxes payable to Berks EIT are discussed on this website. Some School Districts and Municipalities in Berks County collect their own tax, or have a 3rd party agency collect the tax on their behalf. Berks E.I.T. Bureau collects the Earned Income Tax for the taxing bodies listed below. If your School District or municipality is not listed below, contact your local municipal office for any questions or advice.

Who Must File			Every Resident of: Antietam School District Brandywine Heights Area School District Conrad Weiser School District Daniel Boone School District Exeter School District Fleetwood School District Governor Mifflin School District Hamburg School District Muhlenberg School District Kutztown School District Oley Valley School District Schuylkill Valley School District Tulpehocken Area School District Wilson School District Wyomissing Area School District and having earned income, shall file a return with this Bureau on or before April 15, 2008 showing all taxable earned income from Jan 1 through Dec 31 of 2007. Part-year residents shall file a Tax Return to declare only the earnings and tax withheld while residing within our taxing jurisdiction.
Important Item >			If no income was earned, this form must be returned stating the reason on line 6. Some possible reasons are: "Retired", "Student", "Disabled", Public Assistance", etcetera.
Important Item >			Note: Non-taxable income is not reported on the form. Non-taxable income is defined as: Old age benefits, retirement income, alimony receipts, sickness or disability benefits from insurance, capital gains or losses, active duty military pay or bonuses, income from stocks and trusts, rent from "investment" ownership, death benefits, proceeds from life insurance policies, gifts and bequests, interest, dividends, public assistance, unemployment compensation, Subchapter "S" net profits, gambling winnings, and meals and lodging for employer's convenience.
